And a protest that is nothing more than a show for the media is different than what other protests we have had to endure where people shut down freeways?

Its amazing to me, in these times, that a protest for people that WANT TO GO BACK TO WORK is so discounted as a "media stunt"......

Hey just listen to AOC people should boycott work. Who needs it?? Oh and its great that oil markets crashed. Shes so smart....

I was thinking the same AOC has to like the collapse of the oil industry sees it as support to the new Green Deal. Then she guarantees a job for everyone that wants one. How does that work???

So what?
Put on a mask. You will experience no downside. Nothing bad will happen to you if you do.
a n95 Will not do anything to protect you or others around you . but if it gives you a warm fuzzy feeling I guess put one on . I have p100s and even those are not filtering out enough but much better . I wear it in public places . the homemade ones are just a sad joke . this thing is aerosol do people really think a napkin with ear hooks are going to save them lmfao .
imho a whole lot more of us have it than they even want us to know and show zero symptoms.

A N95 mask when fitted properly is "suppose" to filter out 95% of airborne particles 0.3 microns (300 nm) or larger (source Honeywell). The coronavirus size is 120 nm (source Britannica), or half the size of the requirements for the N95 mask. You can come to your own conclusion, but if you do, explain to me how something is going to stop particles that are half the size of what it was designed to stop?

There was a comment above regarding the protests being ineffective and nothing more than a show for the media. I’m not offering opinion on right/wrong for the protests but don’t you think the message of the protest would be severely discounted if everyone was 6ft apart and wearing masks?

Braaaap! There now this post has some snowmobile content! Damn I’m bored....

Absolutely not!
The message of the protest is to reopen the state, right? It is not to debate the effectiveness of the measures in place or the existence of the virus.

The message is "open the state"

So people show up with Trump signs, confederate flags, rifles, no masks, no social distancing. Let's examine theses elements.

Trump signs. Is this protest message a support Trump message. No. Read the message as written above. Therefore, leave the Trump (and all other political signs) at home.

Confederate flags. Is this a white supremacist protest message? No. Leave the confederate flags at home.

Guns. Is this a gun control protest message? No. Leave the guns at home.

For right or wrong, effective or not, what has the governor has defined as successful behavior? Masks and 6 feet apart.

So now you want the governor to change his mind. This is important to understand. The message here is not that masks are ineffective, the virus is the flu, or Evers is a communist. The message is "we can act responsibly, open the state up".

Might I suggest that the protest is a few thousand Wisconsin citizens with banners saying "Wisconsin can do this" marching with masks 6 feet apart onto the capitol lawn and in other cities. There is no downside to the slight inconvenience of wearing a mask. The downside is losing your business if the state stays closed.

Focus on the message. Do what will change the governor's mind, not what supports your political beliefs..

WOW!

So give up all your freedoms, and do it the way the "governor" demands. Because thats the "right" way to beg for your freedoms back.......

The message is Evers is a tyrant. He is infringing on our freedoms. He is demanding we disregard the constitution.

But you want us to line up like sheep and do as we are told in hopes that he "lets" us have some freedoms back??

I think dcsnomo makes good points about SOME of the protesters in general - unfortunately protests usually have a lot more emotion in them than clear thinking at times. We've see that time and time again.

But again, we know what the message was, everyone does.

If you have a bandana and elastic hair ties, you can easily make a mask. My daughter made one for my wife so my wife could feel more comfortable at Costco. Pretty slick. and with the right bandana, you can feel like you're in the wild wild west!!!!

This whole situation has evolved now into our freedoms being at stake. I don't think these governors have the authority they think they have. The OP has a right to express his or her opinions just like all of us but I think the idea that these politicians slowly taking away our freedoms has to be monitored carefully by us, the Citizens of this country.

My personal opinion is the masks out in public do absolutely nothing. I've mentioned this before on JD. In an operating room, of course but not out in public. Too many violations to make it effective. I don't think social distancing is doing anything nor will it ever do anything either other than delay the inevitable or as one doctor said "just changes the dates".

With that said, if it makes someone "feel" better than by all means wear them. I as a business owner I am providing them for my staff if they choose to wear them. In Illinois they are now being forced to wear them. The issue is that it's a choice and the government isn't telling you to do it. What is the criteria for this to end? Will they be mandated until after the looming "second wave"?

My office manager went to the grocery store yesterday to buy one thing...she was told she had to take a cart because it promotes social distancing. I can't understand ANYONE not thinking this is now out of hand

I don't mean to offend anyone who holds different views as i do, but this is nuts.

I suggest you watch this video if you think masks don't help.

well like every CNN story in the last 20yrs it is one side view . the doctors and science community is split if the is droplet or airborne.
some say it can teavel up to 13feet in tbe air from just talking .
now imho watching how this thing spread airborne is much more likely than droplets . but i also lnow the droplet explanation is more soothing to the masses

You know what I think... I know this is going to sound really corny, but I think it’s great that we are all allowed to have our own opinions and speak them. I believe both sides have valid points. I am glad that there are folks concerned about this bug and I am equally glad that there are folks making sure we are not a bunch of frogs in a pot of water slowly being heated up.
I believe this is EXACTLY what our founding fathers had in mind when they laid the laws of the land. Life is not perfect and people are not perfect, opinions will be at opposite ends no matter what the subject matter is. Believe what you want, that is the beauty of this country.

Its is becoming apparent that sooner or later we will all be exposed to this gift from China. My goal is to delay the inevitable as long as I can untill effective treatments become available. I have a very low immune system so I am very careful what I do and Plan out my trips for groceries and the like.. I Dont live in fear and I do think this thing was played by the media. Its the stupid people out there that are at the most risk to spread it and the old and feeble that are most at risk to die from it..sooner or later we will all have to face it. Untill than lets all be carfull and lets get back to work befor were all broke and dont have anywhere to go cauze everything is closed permanently.

Well yes, as you test more, you will get more positives. Your post is useless without the # of tests and the # of positive results to give the percentage ratio....unless you are just another drama lama scare monger with an agenda.

There is a lot more to filtration than particle size.

Please, do elaborate.

That is the size of the virus itself. When it leaves an infected persons body, it is attached to something, usually a liquid particle from their airway system. Those are much larger than the filter size of an N95.

I am not totally convinced the only transmission is by respiratory droplets. There are cases, yet unsubstantiated (https://www.livescience.com/how-covid-19-spreads-transmission-routes.html) that it has spread by aerosol. So, if it can be spread by aerosol, how effective will the mask be?

The exact same can be said for Evers

Thomas Jefferson said: "I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power. An enlightened citizenry is indispensable for the proper functioning of a republic. Self-government is not possible unless the citizens are educated sufficiently to enable them to exercise oversight. It is therefore imperative that the nation see to it that a suitable education be provided for all its citizens." Therefore if we are not “educated sufficiently” we “cannot “exercise oversight”.
