Snowshoe-I live in Greendale and closest I found was Muskego trails. Lake Denoon Middle School has a trailer drop/ride area next door.

Get out and ride as Sunday looks to be a trail closing day for Southern Wi with 40 and rain, hopefully we will not lose all the base and have something to build on when the cold and snow returns. Snow has been blowing and drifting since yesterday afternoon which will help some trails and hurt others. I noticed on my way into work this a.m that the Southern part of Waukesha Co near Eagle was all groomed!

Another great 50 miles last night. We had 25 miles with freshly groomed trails behind the groomer before we passed him in Ables Corners. The other 25 was good but the drifts were getting pretty big and starting to make the already groomed trail bumpy again. I am sure by this morning you will not even be able to tell that they were groomed yesterday with the winds that we have and the drifting that is going on. Either way it was a great ride last night. I rode East Troy, Lyons, Abels, Lauderdale back to East Troy. All was good! Judging by the forecast we only have a few more days left until they will close. I would imagine they will end up closing them by Xmas Eve for sure Xmas day to try and conserve the base that we have. Luckily it looks to get cold again next week. If you look at it this way this was probably the best start that we have seen this early in many years. I don't remember the last time I have put on 250 miles on my sled before Xmas in SE WI in the last 17 years of riding. So I am happy with that. Normally the trails never open before Xmas anyway. I will second ridingdirty800 on the fresh groomed trails in Eagle. I saw the groomer came through on my way to work this morning and they looked pretty sweet. If you are going out tonight I would recommend all the areas I rode last night and also head towards Eagle in Waukesha county towards Knuckleheads. That's it for now. Will report back if I get out again.

Not a dumb question.
I just did that the last two grooming of plowed fields. now they are flat with snow blowing across.
They call it snow farming.
But it is hard on the drag. Use tire tractor first then tractor with tracks.

I Didn't ride last night but a few of my riding buddies did. Report was good but a lot of traffic last night. I spent my evening pounding in a few stakes and remarking the trail that I noticed got knocked over from the road by either plow, groomer or snowmobile. If it was a snowmobile I would imagine it didn't feel so good since they are froze in the ground pretty good. I could tell on the way to work this morning that the traffic was heavy since there was a solid snow trail across all the road crossings. I could also hear multiple sleds from my garage on the trail. The trail is only a few hundred yards from my house in two directions. They still look good for now. I would imagine we will be able to keep them open and good as long as we don't get any sunny above 32F days. Today 30 cloudy with flurries wont hurt them at all. Enjoy.

williams bay to allens grove 42w blowing snow has filled in trails very nicely. clinton grade will be the first to melt. north to milton snow riders trail 40e, closed due to water. 13n to 40e @ whitewater prime. saw 2-3 other sleds all day. blowing snow "captured" on trail and way smoother than you might expect. saw tracks on lauerdale, can't advise this as someone has already died walking on como this year. maybe in a few weeks.

We rode the west end of Walworth co and east end of Rock co. All the woods trails were perfect, 1/2 the fields were good w plenty of snow, the other half were full of drifts. Plenty of snow but lots of drifting from the wind... it was a good time... see Darien Sunset Riders Snowmobile Club on Facebook, I posted some videos from the couple of days of riding w conditions...

Praying that the 30 and sun doesn't take too bad of a toll today. I'll be out tomorrow around twin lakes on a red and black GSX. Curious why they would close now, wouldn't think the base will be able to be saved from multiple days of 40 and rain.

Statement on Walworth Co facebook page.

"As of right now, Trials are holding up. However, with borderline Temps today, please consider riding when Temps cool back off tonight. The debate about saving a base is mute with the projected 1/2 of rain.
Our county map is now available online. www.walworthcountysnow.com
Also never assume we are open, please keep checking the snow phone 262-742-2664, Facebook page, or our website for updated trail conditions and closures very near with this warm up.
Ride safe and stay on the trail! Thank you."

I rode about 40 miles today in Kenosha. Overall the trails were better than I expected. Still more snow than snirt/dirt. Heading north I came across a couple trails marked CLOSED so I turned around. I should have snapped a photo as I don't recall which club it was. I'm new to riding down here so I don't really know the trails. I know the groomer was spotted between 50 and 142 early this morning. Conditions weren't perfect but I didn't feel like I was tearing up my machine.

Is there more than one facebook page for Kenosha? I don't see anything about closing at midnight here: https://www.facebook.com/KenoshaCountySnowmobileAlliance

This was the Facebook message from twin runners earlier this afternoon. Says down to mud which doesn't surprise me. My dad and brother were out yesterday and said things were soft so I can only imagine what mid 30s and sun did today. https://m.facebook.com/Twin-Runners-Snowmobile-Club-295975526735/?ref=content_filter

Rode about 100 miles just after sun down last night in Walworth Co. Left my house with the kids (live on Trail 12 by Blue Overall) headed over to Delavan via trail 63. All trails were groomed, flat and very nice with plenty of hard packed snow on them. Ate dinner at Pirates Cove then headed 63 back to Trail 10, Trail 10 was a little rough at the drifted snow was rock hard. Then took trail 12 back to Elkhorn and was a mix of good and fair. The fair being rough were the drifts had blown across after it had been groomed. Took a little ride up trail 63 towards Whitewater and all was good in that direction. Overall trails are fair to good with most being in good shape. I am told groomers probably will not run again until we receive another snow. To bad as they could really knock some of these drifted trails down so when it rains and freezes its smooth, because there will be a lot of really rough trails for the rest of the season with ice base in places. But not complaining at all as they have done a great job so far. Finally nice to enjoy the trails after all the work getting landowner permission and staking last year and never opening. Hoping for a great Jan-march this year. If you get out before they close enjoy them! Merry Christmas to all you as well!

Kenosha county website and facebook still show trails as open. Not sure what is going on there. This is an email I received this morning:

We are closing the Kenosha County Snowmobile

Trail System effective at midnight tonight, 12-22-16.

Contributing factors are/were rising temperatures, deteriorating trail conditions, and the possibility of mid 40s and rain on Sunday. We want to maintain the trail base that our groomer operators have established for the future of the system this year.

Not sure about trying to save the trail base. I can't imagine it surviving the warm temps plus rain.
