Sounds like they just threw everyone out. Finally got a hold of someone there and all they said was it is a day to day thing and yes the hotel is closed. I told him I was coming on the 9th of feb and asked if it would be open by then and he said "no idea".... I asked what the problem was and he would not say. As if there wasn't already a lack of lodging with the traffic this year..... Imagine the scramble for people....

Ya but this area gets much more traffic and thought maybe someone would have some facts about the situation.

Pure speculation here, but based on the abrupt nature of the shutdown, you wonder if its has to do with a contagious bacteria of some sort. Rumor has it they could be closed a couple weeks, so whatever is going on is pretty serious. That's alot of money for them to be losing in prime winter tourism season. I feel for those that had reservations the next couple weeks. It's not going to be easy to find a last minute place to stay.

Fair enough......a couple theories being thrown out on the other thread sound pretty serious to me which would definitely include the state health dept and will probly be on the news if true. I know nothing and won't add too any speculation on the www.

Pray for snow for northern Wisconsin....it will spread traffic out a bit...There are areas of northern Wisconsin that are rideable....but you will encounter varying conditions from good to poor (thin in spots)...if you want to ride, you will find far less traffic, and I'm sure there are plenty of rooms available from Tomahawk to Rhinelander, to Eagle River and Minocqua..it just depends on what you are willing to do...I won't tell somebody NOT to ride...that's your choice (after all...it's your equipment and your money)....I'm also sure food stops won't be nearly as packed as the YOOP. So if you can handle a little thinner snow, and don't want to travel to the U.P....give it a shot.

these conditions is why I save and sharpen my old carbides.....LOL....rode over new years and in 100 miles had nothing but a thin strip and studs remaining on the left side.

Well the latest speculation which makes the most sense and I got this from a reliable source it could be Legionnaires' disease.Grapevine info only. This would not be good at all

This was my 1st thought when I heard this. I will simply state I have a background in this area and there are very few things that would take a whole place down. But Legionaires is one of them and will take time to deal with.

[h=2]Causes and Common Sources of Infection[/h]Legionella is a type of bacterium found naturally in fresh water. When people are exposed to the bacterium, it can cause illness (Legionnaires’ disease and Pontiac fever). This bacterium grows best in warm water, like the kind found in
spa-relaxing-man.jpg
Legionella are NOT spread from one person to another person.

  • Hot tubs
  • Cooling towers (air-conditioning units for large buildings)
  • Hot water tanks
  • Large plumbing systems
  • Decorative fountains
Cooling towers use water to remove heat from a process or building. They are often part of the air conditioning systems of large buildings. In contrast, home and car air conditioning units do not use water to cool, so they do not aerosolize water (spread small droplets of water in the air) and are not a risk for Legionella growth.

We checked into Watersmeet Casino hotel on Sunday and hot tub was closed. Pool was open with tons of kids. If it is Legioneer disease why are they not disclosing to the people like me who stayed there? They made us leave abruptly and we asked several questions why and all they would say is it is an emergency. If it affects my health why are they not mandated on telling me so i can take precautions..........wondering if I should see a doctor and get checked out because early detection will be the key in diagnosing this. I shouldnt be sitting here worrying about my health and speculating about the closure.......not fair to me at all.

Suppose it has something to do with Indian reservation.might have different set of rules. You are right though they should be contacting people to inform them. What a mess. I hope everything turns out ok.
