Well, one thing for sure, current CONTINUING cold temperatures certainly seem to be doing their magic in keeping lots of snowmobilers at home or somewhere NOT on the trails! Just completed another great 4-day ride in central & northwestern Wisconsin (Coloma to Hayward and back); 655 miles Mon-Thur, met 5 sleds on Monday, NONE on Tuesday, 12 on Wednesday, 2 on Thursday. Temperatures were below zero most of the time, 27.5 hours total riding time, all under daylight riding conditions. Minus 15 degrees was our coldest. TRAILS WERE ALMOST A SOLID 10 all four days, and except for the usual Wisconsin trail intersection signing issues, we had great riding conditions, and the fun factor for this ride was pretty darn near as high as it can get. Bottom line? Ride on weekdays if at all possible, and don't let the extreme frigid temperatures hold you back (but at the same time, please don't risk frostbite or having your fun ruined if the cold is not something you want to deal with). So is this more normal January weather in Wisconsin for 2014 something we will complain about or comment on? Not for everyone, and when our often times January warm-ups and meltdowns ever come back, we will fondly remember about this winter's awesome cold temperatures and the great riding conditions. Love the cold, started a 5-day ride 2+ weeks ago with a minus 27 degree temperature in Conover. Please ride safely and enjoy.
