What is up........

Well, one thing for sure, current CONTINUING cold temperatures certainly seem to be doing their magic in keeping lots of snowmobilers at home or somewhere NOT on the trails! Just completed another great 4-day ride in central & northwestern Wisconsin (Coloma to Hayward and back); 655 miles Mon-Thur, met 5 sleds on Monday, NONE on Tuesday, 12 on Wednesday, 2 on Thursday. Temperatures were below zero most of the time, 27.5 hours total riding time, all under daylight riding conditions. Minus 15 degrees was our coldest. TRAILS WERE ALMOST A SOLID 10 all four days, and except for the usual Wisconsin trail intersection signing issues, we had great riding conditions, and the fun factor for this ride was pretty darn near as high as it can get. Bottom line? Ride on weekdays if at all possible, and don't let the extreme frigid temperatures hold you back (but at the same time, please don't risk frostbite or having your fun ruined if the cold is not something you want to deal with). So is this more normal January weather in Wisconsin for 2014 something we will complain about or comment on? Not for everyone, and when our often times January warm-ups and meltdowns ever come back, we will fondly remember about this winter's awesome cold temperatures and the great riding conditions. Love the cold, started a 5-day ride 2+ weeks ago with a minus 27 degree temperature in Conover. Please ride safely and enjoy.

I'm wonder what "normal" is? This sucks we have great snow and temps are frigid. Rode today, it was in the 20's and snowing. Back in the deep freeze now for who knows how long. But I really love winter, it doesn't get real warm in the summer like it did in IA(where I lived 49yrs), but no humidity here.I enjoy that I don't live in tornado alley, give me sub 0 temps anyday over that. :)

If we waited for perfect conditions we would never ride. Put on some gauntlets and get out and enjoy the trails while no one else is out there. Nothing else should get cold if you have good gear.

Bunch of people riding last night UP & northern WI icing was a problem in the AM then snowed hard in the PM so trail line of sight was good & bad but temps.....don't really care getting adjusted with my gear to make the most of these cold days. Klim Tog gloves helped a lot too.....again got to pay to play & enjoy yourself trail choice is HUGE as well get off grades except for connectors!

When I got done grooming last night at 10:30pm, it was 30*F. This morning I got up and it was 10*F and it fell all day. And to top it off, there isn't enough snow to open the trails yet. I was just working through the drifts trying to establish a better base for.....the next time it decides to snow anything more than a dusting. The cold sucks, especially when there's no useable snow.

Just remember....the "normals" are just an AVERAGE of a bunch of abnormals....but January 2014 might be a record setter for cold overall...as a libtard despisin', manmade global warming denier, I am giddy as H.ELL right now!

My "up north" neighbor was moved to a nursing home this past November.. All this discussion got me thinking about his heat. His tank says 3%. Amazing furnace still running. Called his adult son who is in Pontiac Mi. He is tracking down a plumber to winterize the place or a front end loader to clear the drive to get a propane truck in. Either way it is Sunday and it will cost them a bit. His drive is 375' long. At least pipes are not frozen yet. Glad I got one bar signal on phone to read this topic and call the son.

As long as my drain field doesn't freeze, I have no problem with the cold.
I heard that flushing a brick of brewers yeast or bakers yeast down gets the septic tank a working pretty good munching away thus warming up the system. Worth a shot?

Nope I'm not. Well I guess during the week I do, working in it does suck! Far as riding in it, bring it on. Had to go waist deep in the river last nite to fish wifes sled out of the drink! Little cold in the nether region! LOL! Rode another couple hours.

Wednesday night forecast for our area has a low of +5F and a Thursday high of 19F........THAT'S what I was referring to as "normal" for this area.......unfortunately it's also the only day in the forecast with temps this high.........
