What's the skinny on the new AZ immigration law??

A lot of people, I suspect, still think of illegal laborers as cash only workers picking lettuce in California. What I don't think some people understand is that a lot of illegal aliens work for corporations and get paychecks with forged papers. I am not trying to minimize the impact on our society, nor the expense to our social system, but what's really weird is that these 11 million people actually contribute to the economy in a big way.

The reason these people are here is because there are jobs available. The reason there are jobs available is because that sector of the economy needs them. The reason that sector of the economy needs to hire is because it is growing. If the govt lets 'em come in, the campaign donations keep flowing because the PACs members keep making money. Therefore, why close the border?

What a fine mess our government has gotten us into. By ignoring the problem for so many years we now cannot live with them, and we cannot live without them. Good job, Congress.

Interesting story on CBS news yesterday. Two years ago AZ had 680,000 illegal immigrants. Today, that number has declined by 100,000 primarily due to the actions of the Maricopa County Sheriff ( I never said he wasn't effective!). What is the initial impact? The demand for rental housing is drying up, and landlords can't rent their houses. And the landlord they spoke to was a white guy complaining that he is a citizen and the crackdown means he has 7 unrented houses. Even though he knew they were illegal renters!

BTW, the reporter also mentioned that the illegals were not going home, but fleeing to % less wages than you would otherwise, and they pay taxes, and are required to conform to use rules in housing, and all the other processes that they normally would do we would be just fine. But they don't and employers employ them because they are cheaper than dirt, and that means the employer makes more money.
So who should we be blaming here? Who benefits when the illegals get here? Once we go after THOSE folks, and put THEM in jail, THEN we will see a decline in the importation of slave labor..need I remind everyone that paying cash wages is illegal...we have laws to correct this, but we are using the wrong mode to correct the problem. I don't blame illegals for trying to better themselves, but if when they got here they couldn't get a job..this would all end in a heartbeat.

BOON,

With all that said, if you were the AZ Gov, what would you do to remedy the situation?
1. Enforce the current fed laws.
2. Enforce the new AZ laws.
3. Ignore all the current laws and make the city/state a sanctuary city.
4. Crack down on employers.
5. Build the wall and enforce it.

You brought up all good points, just like the rest of the concerned people.
But if you enforce any of the above, you will be on someones attack list. Tough choices sometime. I lived on the Mexican border for a couple of years, and everyday I would watch
these people come accross that Cali border, now that state if financially paying the price
for saying YES to everyone and everything....

We need tough people to make tough choices to a tough situation....so what would you do?

That's easy.

I would call out the FEDS...they are handcuffin the guys who are patrolin the border. I would let them shoot to kill.

then I would tell the Government of Mexico to get with it. Let the police THER side of the border...canada does, why doesn't mexico...?

then I would throw employers in JAIL for hiring illegals. Use the same process as the feds did to prosecute those two border agents back in 2006...only let the illegals go states evidence, testifying against employers. this would dry up the jobs.

Let the employers, put ads in the paper for workers so that those around here could go down and get work. I would cap unemployment 26 weeks FORCING those who want to earn a living to go get those jobs.

I would continue to allow the cops to check I.D.s and deport illegals.

I would throw AMERICANS who aid and abet illegals in jail.

Then....I would wake up in a perfect world.

I think this sums it up well.

ORANGE COUNTY (CALIFORNIA ) NEWSPAPER-New Immigrants
This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman made some good
points..
For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions. This lady made the argument pretty simple. NOT printed in the Orange County Paper...................

Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either
deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with your help it will get published via cyberspace!

From:
"David LaBonte"
My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed. So, I decided to "print" it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register:

Dear Editor:
So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry.

Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people
like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get
down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary
rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home.

They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to
help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity.

Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out.
My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan . They were defending the United States of America as one people.

When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew
what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl.

And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same
rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future
generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they
would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags.

And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on
the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.

the disturbing part of that story was when I took the poll there were more votes for keeping the children safe buy making them change than for letting them were a American flag shirt.WHAT IS GOING ON PEOPLE!

Probably, like most news stories, they missed significant parts to this story.

With a "rich" ethic mix, there is likely gang war tendencies which are often found in this situation where a constant dominance struggle is occurring.

In most schools, you can't wear provocative tee shirts, of any kind, or the topic of the day will be "did you see the tee that so and so is wearing" instead of keeping things low key and actually attempting to teach at these schools.

I know that in my area, if you wear a tee that anyone...teacher, counselor, principal finds out of character to learning, they send you to the office and you get a school tee that has only the school name on it...which in and of itself, lets the other kids know..."hey...you must have broken the rules...what did you wear" and you get to pick up the tee at the end of the day by returning the school shirt.

Had this simply been about a few kids wearing American flag shirts, this might have more concern. But since these kids all hung together, AND wore head bandannas, I could see how this was an attempt at provoking violence and an "in your face" attempt on this day of days.

Of course, as soon as these likely trouble makers get what they were asking for from the principal, the parents are off to the races with the conservative press...and they found their mark no doubt.
