I have a good friend i went to school with who became a Border agent....he is looking for new form of work as its a crime now for him to do his job....The Govt does not want that border closed.....

then the good guys came to the rescue..
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/19/bush-commutes-border-patr_n_159139.html

how sad is this...............

I just read the investigative report on this case, having only hear about it in the news a few years ago. (2006) http://www.dhs.gov/xoig/assets/OIG_foia_RamosCompean.pdf

What happened is the two officers, whose sentences were commuted in the last hours of President Bush's term in office, broke the rules, lied about what they did, and didn't report what happened. That is likely why they were convicted because they broke service policy.

Unfortuntely, a legal alien, and relative, heard about the shooting and wounding of the illegal smuggler via telephone (Momma called sister in the States) who promptly called and talked to someone of authority who sent it all to the investigative authority who went over and above to find out if it was true and to give immunity to the smuggler if he testified against the agents who shot at him. (He would not help the drug enforcement division, because, that might endanger his own life back in Mexico...so his cooperation was not full and had limitations)

So it does appear that the Agents were guilty.

However, interestingly enough, they are not allowed to shoot at fleeing illegals (how stupid is that??) even if the illegal was stopped and threw dirt in the eyes of the officer who stopped him. Even though he was smuggling 743 pounds of drugs (marijuana).

Not only that, in the course of the investigation it came out that the illegal was suing the US government, that our government gave immunity so he could testify, and that he got free medical help, under the guise of obtaining evidence...the bullet still in his butt, and despite what this bozo did, got a "get thru the border" to testify and get the medical help card.

It is clear as a bell that we tied the hands, (and still do) of border patrol agents to use any type of force and all an illegal has to do is run away from them and the only weapon a border patrol agent can use is his legs to chase him...clearly a risky business if you don't know if the man has a knife, or gun.

Which all points at one thing....we are NOT really serious about keeping illegals out of our country....and once all --would be-- foreign intruders know this, it is game over. Run like the wind and nothing will happen to you, unless you run into some rogue agents who will shoot at you anyway, then sue the government and get free medical attention, and who knows what else.

So, yes, it appears our government isn't serious about keeping illegals out...and I would agree that Arizona has done about the only thing they can do to clean them out and send them back. But this is like bailing a boat with a hundred holes in it. The real problem lies in keeping them out of the country, and we are putting a band-aid on a gaping wound.

Someone needs to have the gonads to run for office and put some teeth back in the enforcement of the border which will stop this insane activity. Until then, they might as well hang a sign at the border saying --"KEEP OUT....JUST KIDDING!"

I agree 110% Boondocker........maybe the only solution is to Invade Mexico and claim it as ours, clean it up and have them pay taxes....

Well, something needs to happen. The Maricopa County Sheriff's office raided a drop house yesterday afternoon in Mesa, AZ and picked up 24 Mexican "immigrants" and a stolen vehicle. This was four miles from my house, which for me, is hitting pretty close to home. I wonder if the Federal Government could help a little?

No need for 6 pargraphs of self serving blah, blah, blah.....

A genuine patriot does not hide behind leftist PC debate tactics.

I am having fun here, learning things, expressing opinions, getting people to think, maybe re-examine their ideas, maybe not.

You, sir, have no right to insult me or question my patriotism. You need to apologize.

This is a friendly board, not one where people are insulted.

"Why would people have a problem with racial profiling? For the same reason you would! Racial profiling is not like airport profiling, it is a systematic shift in police enforcement that targets a group of people not because of their actions, but because of their race."

Being a patriot citizen of our sovereign country I would smile at the officer , answer all his questions , show my ID and then thank him for doing a great job.....and YOU??????

So would I. Might get a little cranky though if he and the other deputies had swept through my neighborhood 13 times harassing my friends and family.

The reason people have a problem with racial profiling is because it is unconstitutional under the fourth amendment which requires "probable cause". Race is not probable cause.

A census worker can ask me how many people live in my house why can't a cop ask for id when they stop someone. I do not think people understand the word illegal. So if someone has an illegal living with them would that be harboring a fugitive?

A cop can stop someone and ask for an ID. Ain't the issue.

I agree with Boondocker, gov't does not want to close the border

A lot of people, I suspect, still think of illegal laborers as cash only workers picking lettuce in California. What I don't think some people understand is that a lot of illegal aliens work for corporations and get paychecks with forged papers. I am not trying to minimize the impact on our society, nor the expense to our social system, but what's really weird is that these 11 million people actually contribute to the economy in a big way.

The reason these people are here is because there are jobs available. The reason there are jobs available is because that sector of the economy needs them. The reason that sector of the economy needs to hire is because it is growing. If the govt lets 'em come in, the campaign donations keep flowing because the PACs members keep making money. Therefore, why close the border?

What a fine mess our government has gotten us into. By ignoring the problem for so many years we now cannot live with them, and we cannot live without them. Good job, Congress.

Interesting story on CBS news yesterday. Two years ago AZ had 680,000 illegal immigrants. Today, that number has declined by 100,000 primarily due to the actions of the Maricopa County Sheriff ( I never said he wasn't effective!). What is the initial impact? The demand for rental housing is drying up, and landlords can't rent their houses. And the landlord they spoke to was a white guy complaining that he is a citizen and the crackdown means he has 7 unrented houses. Even though he knew they were illegal renters!

BTW, the reporter also mentioned that the illegals were not going home, but fleeing to Colorado.

What a mess...

That is the issue about if a cop can ask for id. If they have probable cause they cannot ask any questions. Just make it if you have no id ask everyone if they are illegal. Easy solution I have no problem if they ask if I am illegal. Its great dcsnomo that you have no answers and live in your protected door county. Do you have any answers just how you want to protect ILLEGAL people entering this country.

Settle down, it's a discussion, I am not a threat.

Why would I want to protect ILLEGAL people entering the country? Huh?

I want to protect LEGAL citizens that live here. It's called the fourth amendment. Probable cause. Race is not probable cause

Oh really?
If you're not driving, you are not required to present (or even have) a driver's license. That, and a US citizen is not required to carry any ID at all. So what ID can the cop ask to see?

Race is a probable cause if the statistics show that Race is an "Identifier" to those that are committing a crime in a certain region or area. Ask a DNR officer in Door County what they deem as Probable Cause. Knowing one personally, he says "anything" from fishing poles in the rear window to a hunting cap.

I also might get cranky about sweeping through my nieghborhood but there is probably a good reason for it and I would rather be cranky about police presence than nervous about criminal actions in my neighborhood. I guess" To each thier own"

I know your only joking, but do remember, poor people don't pay taxes. And they don't open businesses. But they do get money back, theirs and someone elses.

BTW, the reporter also mentioned that the illegals were not going home, but fleeing to % less wages than you would otherwise, and they pay taxes, and are required to conform to use rules in housing, and all the other processes that they normally would do we would be just fine. But they don't and employers employ them because they are cheaper than dirt, and that means the employer makes more money.
So who should we be blaming here? Who benefits when the illegals get here? Once we go after THOSE folks, and put THEM in jail, THEN we will see a decline in the importation of slave labor..need I remind everyone that paying cash wages is illegal...we have laws to correct this, but we are using the wrong mode to correct the problem. I don't blame illegals for trying to better themselves, but if when they got here they couldn't get a job..this would all end in a heartbeat.
