Thought I’d update. I got our group reservations at copperline lodge in Saratoga. We start the 15 hour trek on Monday. Got us a guide for one day. Prob trailering to I believe Ryan park everyday unless somebody has a better idea. I have not taken an actual avy course but the rest of the group has. Obviously it’s too late for a live course at this point but does anybody have an online pre recorded webinar or video training training they could provide a link for?
Most incidents in Snowies are people or groups getting lost and freezing vs avalanches. Not saying it doesn't happen or won't happen, just saying being halfway decent with a GPS is a priority at the Snowies. It gets very windy and whiteouts happen often.
Mike Duffy (Avalanche1 I think it is) has some vids and there's a Avy quiz somewhere too. BCA may have some vids too.
Also agree with radios.
Buddy had a radio die 2 weeks ago. Of course after I hadn't seen him in awhile I had to go hunting for him because no radio. Luckily he is very experienced backcountry rider and it wasn't an issue, but he had to get himself out of a heck of a situation without help from me because I had to hunt for him vs just going right to him.
