Change is good. Heat Red is good too. I would have ordered a Heat Red Viper but all my clothes are blue.
Glad to hear that MNBLIZZARD, wasnt sure between the 3 APEX SE , APEX or the XTX. dont know about clothes yet as all my gear is POO, maybe a huge bonfire
THE CHOICE IS..... APEX SE. Wanted something reliable and like you said , gas and go.
After having owned and putting thousands of miles on a 2006 Apex GT and a 2007 attak (which as whitedust probably pointed out is a "longer" 136" track) as well as currently owning a 2011 Apex XTX and a 2012 Apex XTX which have the 144" tracks. I would have suggested the XTX without a doubt. I realize it's too late, but I thought my two cents may help you once you get your sled. The 2006 Apex GT (short track) needed studs to handle the power. the tail wandered and seemed like there wasn't enough bite in the rear. The 2007 attak was much better. I never stud my tracks since they stay in my garage and I don't want to ruin my expensive garage floor coating. As I stated, I now have XTX's and absolutely love the sleds. Previously I thought the attak was the finest sled I had owned. the XTX's are superior to the attak. The longer track is very nice and balances the sled better. The tipped rails offset the 144" track nicely. I use snow-tracker carbides to reduce push in the corners and eliminates darting completely.
The point of my post is this...if you stud your tracks then you will be fine. I believe the SE comes with a 128" track. I didn't choose that model because I knew the 121" track wasn't enough. Studded would help I'm sure. Once you are studded, if you go that route, you will most likely need aggressive carbides to reduce the push in the corners. I use the 8" aggressive carbides from snow-tracker. I have used bergstrom and like them...just too much of a pain in the shorts to get a hold of him. I even have the 8" aggressive snow-trackers on my 2013 Venture GT.
So set up properly, your machine should be a sound choice. The key is setup. 165hp on a 128" track will, in my opinion need more grip, which in turn will increase push in the corners, therefore needing aggresive carbides.
sorry to ramble. Just trying to give you as much input as possible to ensure a successful riding season next year.
Congratulations!
Wow Dust - you have a lot more faith than I do in tracks. 10,000 miles??? I seldom run a track more than 5000 miles. After that they can shred anytime even if they look good. I ride alone a lot in desolate places so I can't have problems. Stupid, yes, but it happens.
And EAGLE 1 , sorry but not TEAM BLUE ,ordered the Heat Red color, lol
Big war going down at Totally Yamaha site regarding Viper. Mods shutting people down for excessive criticism.
I recall all the trouble they had with front end config on the Nytro and can't help but believe they are headed for the same thing.
Something just doesn't seem right about the way they put this together - too lazy to do their own R&D on a chassis so they piece one together with the worst quality mfg. in the industry.
Now I'm hearing Viper got smoked in field test with Nytro.
It will be real entertainment watching all the new owners retrofit their under-developed iron with their homemade remedies - like the Nytro.
Hype is great, but real world performance speaks volumes.
I'm not a fan of this "marriage", but it's way to early to come to any conclusions on the sled. It hasn't even gone into production yet! Let's give it a fair shake next season.
