Blown up rush

Fact: A 675 lbsled will not run with a 480 lb sled through the twisties. Even Charles Atlas could not make this work. An Attak is a heavy, high center of gravity sled that will never blow up but it has its limitations. It will also never be a ditch banging first choice since it is so heavy and is very unpredictable to land. It will never be a deep snow machine because it trenches so badly. An Attak is for wide smooth trails and that is about it. That is just the way it is. The new XTX Apex makes the Attak obsolete. There is nothing here to argue with. Sorry.

We currently have 2 Rushes, 4 IQs, 2 XPs, and 4 edges, in the fleet. The guys on Edges are to scared to buy any thing newer cuz of all the blow-ups.

Not only because of the blow ups but when you do have a problem with the newer sleds they have to get plugged in at the dealer etc. There isn't anything I can't fix on my RMK based edge. And there are parts everywhere! 13,000 miles and counting...........

He just dropped it off last night, so I doubt they dug into til today at the earliest. He has been in contact with some other dealers, and he has not found one that has gone down yet. I know there is a handful on HCS, but that was mainly the 800 oil line pinch issue, which should be resolved by now. And I think there was one or 2 600s. I think slimcake had a 600 go down. But I dont remember the details on the 600s. But all in all, a handfull, out of all the Rushes on this site and the other sites, is pretty darn good, if you ask me.

I really believe it was dealer error, but I have no proof yet. We shall find out this week.

I'm thinking this is something to do with the design of the rush, because prior to being put in the rush chassis, this exact same motor was flawless.

I disagree with that. Polaris and polaris owners want you to think that but I know many people that ve burnt down there 600 motors in the past 5 years. Yes polaris did have a great 600 motor when it was in the edge chassis and it was carbed..

We have guys around here paying big bucks for low mile 700 XCXP's just because they are scared of the new stuff going boom. I bet if Pol built a few of these they would still sell. If they still sold new 2003 F7's I myself would buy one of them. I guess this is called progress. Who knows?

I think they'd still be making them if not for the gov't restrictions.

Just throwing this out there, if the majority of engine failures are with the CFI sleds, could it have anything to do with the fuel injection system or fuel filter? (Recommended fuel filter change interval for Polaris CFI is first at 1k, then every 2k after.)

Also, seems the newer 2-strokes (any brand) seem lean in the mid-range, for those that have went down, how many were running at those speeds, for any length of time?

85 Phaser, Sweeet.

Had one and beat the s%$t out of this sled. I used it as a ditch banger and usually limpt it home tore all to ****. Man she was a great sled though. I never had an engine burn down and used Yamy oils.

Pol 2 smokes have been lean in the midrange for 30 years.

BIG disagree from me on that one Indy. My 07 Switchback 600 cfi went thru 3 pistons in 4500 miles. The first 3000 miles were flawless, the next 1500-3 pistons. I hope they fixed the problem on my new Rush LX. Going with the two year warranty on this one....

Were you able to determine what caused the engine failure(s) that resulted in 3 pistons after a trouble-free 3k?

The first time I was told it was a cold seize of the pto side piston. We were in the Bighorns and had stopped for gas and a burger and when we started back to the lodge we were driving slow in a white out condition and my dealer said I probably didn't let the engine warm up enough and the thermo opened and a cold rush of coolant came in and shrunk the cyl on the hot piston. Ok, first time that ever happened to me? He rebuilt it and because it was spring I didn't ride again till 09 December. 375 miles on first weekend in Mass and it went down again this time cold seize on mag side. I know I was warmed up on this one because I was watching my temp gage like he told me to do. Brought it back and he rebuilt it again, this time changing the thermo too, all on his nickle too. Ran it the rest of last year and put about 900 miles on it, no problem. Again started the year in Mass area and ran about 400 miles xmas-new years week and seized the pto side again, in the middle of the day on south Laird rd running about 60 mph. You can put all three pistons next to each other and not be able to tell the difference. I had over 13000 miles on my 01 edge 600 with no problems and drove this switch the same way I drove the edge. I hope I have better luck with the Rush......we will see....
