Did U get fat this last winter?

Thanks guys. Yeah it is tough, but when you get results it makes it that much easier. I didn't eat as well as I do at home, but I made an effort to eat healthier foods when at restaurants and it seemed to work. Thanks for the support.

Well the day is here. Six months ago I started and while I didn't weigh myself that morning, I know the day or two before I had topped out at 250 so I decided to join my wife on the diet journey starting on a Monday. Little did I know I would find Lenny's thread a few weeks later. I know one of the main reasons I was able to keep at it this long was the accountabilIty this thread has provided. While I had set some initial goals nothing was really firmly established until a couple months back when other JDer's started hitting numbers and stopping the process. So with that in mind I decided 6 months and 80 pounds would be a good round number to shoot for. That being said, here are my numbers for today.....

At the close of week 26, weigh-in weight of 169.9, weekly loss of 1.9 pounds, total to date, 80.1 lbs, total % of weight lost 32.04%. I made it!

Thanks to everyone who has been a encourager and supporter over the past 6 months, I still may try for a couple pounds as I think it would be great to hit the 1/3 total % mark, plus that would give me a few pounds to bounce back up and end up where I'm at now, but for now I'm saying I made it. I'm still going to check in and see how the rest of you that are still reporting are coming along, and I'll still give an update so I can keep some accountability for maintaining my weight, but as of today I'm saying I'm officially done with the loss phase of this lifestyle and I'm moving on the the more difficult phase, maintaining it for years to come.

Looking forward to the ride-in so we call all hook-up and share stories and encourage each other face to face.

Now enough about me, HOW DID THE REST OF YOU DO THIS WEEK?!?!?

I have been following this thread from the beginning and I've often wanted to comment, but I have to say I am VERY impressed with the results you guys have made, especially garyl62! What an accomplishment and you should be proud of yourself! It would be nice to have a before and after pics, but I know they may not be available. Good luck with keeping it off!

Thanks mspease, I've been looking for a before/after type of photos for the past couple days when I could see the end was in sight and this is the best I have come up with. The before photo is from about 15 months ago, and the after is from now.

As I said, this thread was a big inspiration and everyone who took part in it should be proud of themselves no matter what their total numbers were. I just got lucky with finding something that worked for me. Ridingdirty800 is really the big loser though, I'm still waiting to hear his numbers and can't wait to see his before/after photos!

I bet if people haven't seen you for a year or two they hardly recognize you! You don't look like the same guy and I'm sure you feel different too!

Its funny, a lot of people ask that "how do you feel" question and I guess I feel a little better but its probably due to the fact I'm walking so much now. I really didn't feel bad before, didn't have any real health issues, slept fine, but I do have an easier time with some of the physical aspects of my job and activities. Biggest change is I don't mind being in pictures, but I didn't know I avoided that until I went looking for "before" photos and realized there were very few.

The biggest difference so far has been the golf game. I didn't play a lot this season, but when I did the different weight, and location of it, seemed to screw up my game. Guess I'll need to make some swing adjustments next year. Looking forward to how 80 lbs less feels on the sled this year too!

Gary,
Congrats on the weight loss. I wish i would have seen the initial post back in March. I would have given my input as well. I dont have time to read all the posts but i did read some at the beginning and some at the end. Your before and after pictures look amazing. I too have been on a weight lose journey since January. In Dec my wife and I were increasing our life insurance and therefore had to have some blood work. I was shocked when i saw the results. NOT GOOD!!!!! At that point i weighed 253. So the first thing i did was stop drinking pop (or soda for those from WI). I was amazed at my results from that alone. I lost about 15 in a 30-45 days. So i said to myself, "self, that was quite easy. What might happen if i actually started eating better." So i started to eat better. Started eating salads, gave up the french fries, chips, etc. I still do eat hamburgers and pizza and the other food we all enjoy, but just do so on a smaller scale. Next thing you know im down another 10-15 pounds. So now im thinking what would happen if I started exercising? So i started running. One mile at first, thought i was going to die!!! I didn't give up and kept at it. Did my first 5k in June. I wasn't able to run the entire 3.1 miles but I finished. I have since run 3 more 5k's an 8k and a 10k this past weekend in Ashland WI. I now weigh 200 lbs and feel great about myself and what i have accomplished. I guess my point is to those who are starting or thinking about starting this journey is to take "baby steps" at first. Set small but attainable goals and then keep raising the bar. Good luck to those starting and congrats to those who have succeeded.

I guess I should have been checking in this Summer. My wife and I started watching what we were eating and walking daily at a fast pace. She was down about 24 lbs and I was down about 17. Then, summer kicked in, and all my other activities that lead to not doing what we started. I'm almost back to where I was before. Going to get motivated to hit it again. Doesn't sound like we are going to get much winter this year, and I'm NOT going to live and die by the damn forecasts, like last year. I really could stand to lose at least 50 lbs but would be happy if I hit 35 and then go down from there. Our biggest obstacle is our daughter. She's 27 and severely disabled, needing a lot of attention. But we did it in March to July so we can do it again.
Thanks for all the posts-I read most of them. Congrats to you all!!

Well it’s been 2 weeks since I checked in and last week I was thinking I should have started a new thread called “Did you get fat this last week”.

After hitting my goals I took a week completely off. Didn’t exercise, ate pizza at 10:00pm (two or three nights), went out for greasy burgers and fries, had chocolate ice cream every night, and snacked all the time. Didn’t count one calorie all week. It was a pure healthy lifestyle vacation. The result: I gained 9.6 pounds. Not surprised I gained a lot, but a little surprised it was that much.

So this past week I started to watch my intake again. Had a diet day or two, but also had days of big meals and snacks. Only exercised twice, but still dropped 3 pounds. Now I’m ready to settle into a routine that keeps me in the weight range I want. Like I said a couple weeks ago, I’m still checking in so I can encourage those of you that are trying to drop some pounds, and so I’ll have some accountability with all of you to maintain what I've reached. For now I’m trying to settle into that balance of that keeps me in my goal range, but also gives me those "eat anything" meals or days.

As of today I’m at 176.4, up 6.5 from my low point, but still down 73.6 overall and looking to drop a couple again this week.

Hope all of you are keeping the faith and seeing great results!
