sounds exhilarating lining up that 99 gmc 5.3with its 270 hp and 315 ft lbs of torque.

I don't have the 5.3 mines a Sierra Classic old body style with the 5.7. I got a few friends with 5.3s and they cant even burn the tires...

I agree. Not a fan of the the 5.3. Had it in my 09 Yukon and it felt anemic compared to the 5.4 in my 2005 Expedition that it replaced. More HP but noticeably less torque. Then I went from that to a Tundra and it pulled like a raped ape, thanks to the 4.30 rear end, but I didn't care for the excessive tanny binding if you happened to try making a turn in 4x4. Then I went to the a 2011 F-350 with the 6.7. Best all around truck I have ever owned. I miss this one the most. The only drawback to it was the ride without a trailer wasn't very good. Understandably. Unfortunately I sold this one after I went through a divorce. Now I have a 2012 F-150 with the 5.0. Overall I really like the truck! One of the things I am very disappointed in is the how thin the sheet metal is. This is the first truck I have ever had that you literally can see the sheet metal flapping when you close the doors. Also thought I did serious damage to my truck the first time I took it through a car wash with a blow drier. The roof started flexing so bad I thought it was going to part itself out. I am told the new sheet metal is "better" but time will tell.

Anyway, here are my combined MPG numbers with and without pulling my 16' inline:

2005 Expedition 5.4L: 17.5 mpg / N/A (Never towed my inline)
2007 Tundra CrewMax 5.7L: 18 mpg / 9 mpg
2009 Yukon XL 5.3L: 18.5 mpg / 10 mpg
2011 F-350 6.7: 19.5 mpg / 13 mpg
2012 F-150 5.0: 18 mpg / 10 mpg (only 3,000 miles)

Now I am considering giving my 5.0 a little bump in torque. We'll see! ;-)

Trucks might not actually be fast, but they do feel fast, and most importantly, they typically burn tires really well!

trucks are for work and pulling end of story
it is shocking how many office guys with no toys to pull buy them ? I have no idea I would much rather drive a sports car for a daily driver. I think they buy them to feel more like a man as they step out from there cubical with the pink sorry salmon shirt and walk to the truck after work.you know the type u see them driving z71 all the time .

I am an "office guy" that drives an F150. You will see me exiting my fx4 during the week day with a colored shirt and tie. But during the weekend you will see me pulling my sleds or boat, or hauling lumber for
A new project at home etc... I havedriven a truck all my life, I think your remarks about no one that wears a tie should drive a truck are just plain ignorant.

I am considering getting a 2012 F150 supercrew XLT 4x4. I don't know what engine to get. I have a F250 diesel for pulling and snow plowing needs. So 5.0 or Ecoboost? This truck would be my wife's daily driver.

not Indy he cant even get the numbers right 2012 400 hp at 2800rpm
800 tq at 1600 rpm
but 1 looks good reason to buy ford
2 most power across the line up good reason to go ford
3 biggest % of US parts and labor to build.real good reason to go ford
4 Did not take the US tax payer money so rewarding good business.reason to go ford
5 they did not take the money then allow the government to say who's dealerships get to stay open and who's have to shut the door, then sell them self to Fiat.good reason not to go dodge
6 or take the money and move it to Mexico and China like GM.good reason to by ford
I thought about a Ram for about 10 min then snapped out of my trance and give my money to the company most in line with my beliefs.that would be ford.
I cant say about the 6 speed as far as how long it will last but my 6 speed shifts solid but it is new so it should.
I have a bud with 50k on a ford 6 speed no issues yet and he pulls a steel trailer with 3 big mowers every day

What will you use it for and how often? See my prior post in this thread on gas mileage. Having come from the Powerstroke (Excursion & F350), the Eco pulls like a diesel - no complaints on power. I have noticed going from the heavier Excursions & F350, you can feel my 23' enclosed trailer when the wind is blowing.

My son has a F150 5.0 with the 3.55 rear end and gets better mileage, but has not towed with it yet.

BTW, my F150 is my wife's daily driver. She loves (not as much as the Excursion). We have a Platinum Crew Cab 5 1/2 bed with 3.71 rear end.

Feel free to ask any questions. Good luck and let us know what you choose.
