Well I bought the 5. no I am on gas fill up number 2 the trip computer is saying 16.4 miles per gallon
I have spent very little time on the freeway
my buddy is on take number 1 with the ego boost and he is getting the same mileage as me
I gotta say this is my favorite truck I've ever owned indy can keep is Gm Mexico junk

ego boost: Beautiful! That may be more accurate than "ECO boost"! (I luv it!) ;)

What will you use it for and how often? See my prior post in this thread on gas mileage. Having come from the Powerstroke (Excursion & F350), the Eco pulls like a diesel - no complaints on power. I have noticed going from the heavier Excursions & F350, you can feel my 23' enclosed trailer when the wind is blowing.

My son has a F150 5.0 with the 3.55 rear end and gets better mileage, but has not towed with it yet.

BTW, my F150 is my wife's daily driver. She loves (not as much as the Excursion). We have a Platinum Crew Cab 5 1/2 bed with 3.71 rear end.

Feel free to ask any questions. Good luck and let us know what you choose.

heckler56,
I did read your previous posts. I am curious what an EcoBoost with 3.55 gears would do on mileage. I do not plan on towing anything other then a small trailer (2 place enclosed sled trailer) with this truck. I have a gooseneck equipment trailer that this truck wouldn't be able to pull. The only way I will get an EcoBoost is with the 3.55 or 3.31 rear gear.

You might just want to go with a 5.0 for the following reasons: You are not really pulling anything - hence need for the power, based on the mileage difference between a 5.0 & Eco with 3.55 gears might not justify the upcharge for the Eco, and, the Eco has the intercooler mounted low and exposed to sand and gravel (what Trenary has an abundence of in the winter).

If you are looking for it to plow with, or want to here some other's thoughts, go to the F150 forum. Having come from the diesels and heavy vehicles, I am not sure the plowing capabilities of a F150 would be to your liking, and I am not sure how it would workout with the intercooler being blocked by the blade.

Eco boost can do all right mpg wise but if you do a lot of stop and go not gonna do all that great

My eco with 3.73 gears avg after 4500 miles is 15.0 mpg, includes towing boat all summer. Best tank average so far is 17.6 mpg.
I don't do alot of highway miles.

Plowing not recommend for f-150's (unless you have the 6.2 liter) because of electric power steering.

As far as plowing goes, probably need something other than an F-150 because of the electronic steering is too fragile to handle the slow speed turns and heavy weight of a plow.

As for as blocking the intercooler inlet while driving around with a plow, I suspect it will drive okay but the perfomance won't be there. And while that opening is down there, you can get a nice grill to cover the opening partially which will keep the stones out and away from the admittedly expensive intercooler.

If you are city driving a two ton truck...and want mileage...it isn't going to happen. But if you do like most folks which is 50/50 and you GET THE 3.31 rear end expect mid twenties down the road hauling nothing but a big smile as you pass those Dodges getting 12 mpg. It is a good concept that is working well, and which has the other makers playing catch-up. Mid twenties fuel economy is pretty decent and the pep the truck has (I have actually driven one) is amazingly good.

I never said I wanted to plow with it.

I am not sure how much time you spend in Trenary, but there isn't much sand or gravel from my experience. They are lucky to see a snowplow after a snow storm for a few days.

The plan is to have two trucks:
06 F250 diesel for plowing, towing, and my daily driver
12 F150 supercrew for my wifes daily driver.

Just remember that the window sticker epa mileage stuff does NOT take into consideration the axle ratio and gives an average of the ratio's available. If you get the 3.73ish it will get the worste mileage and the 3.11 will get the best.

If you buy one hunt for the lowest possible ratio and get the best mileage for running around town and you will be glad that you sprung for the ecoboost motor....it is that much better.

You guys driving down hill all the time? I had a fleet of chevy 350's in 3/4 and 1ton vans and extended cabs for the business, non of them (all with 3:73 RATIO) ever got better then 12.7 MPG. My so called Modern Hemi sucks gas like it is water avg. is 13.9 never over 15.5 when totally empty and add any weight or a trailer and it drops real fast to around 12.0 mpg. or less. I find that most vehicals have a "sweet spot" for optimum gas mileage. My Hemi is 59mph. the Chevy 350's is 63mph. and the Suburban with the 454 big block with 4:10 gears is parked with the key off for best mileage.

The higher the number the lower the ratio.

I get the best mileage driving with my thumb on the cruse.
when I use my foot I usually drop 3mpg or more.
pr1 no one buys a dodge for MPG but the 2013 has the cylinder dropping thing like Obama motors trucks fiat is claiming 23mpg on the new 1500 ram

I really don't think the savings of the cylinders shutting down and restarting will ever have a break even. I suspect it adds way more cost for all the crap to get a spec more mileage than what ever will be recovered. If the computer that runs all this breaks most definately all savings will be lost.

I average 18.6 in afm silverado 1500. Milage varies a lot with driving charactieristics. Light foot on the highway will do 22-23. Beat on it some and drops to 15-16. I would believe dodge's claim on new truck

well I filled up with corn gas this morning and hit the road for the day and the corn gas dropped me 3.5 mpg

Yeah but you polluted 90% less...than had you used dinosaur urine!

EZ...sounds like you need to get a driver for yourself. Steady foot gets the mileage and up down up down...gets to stop at the pump more often...no matter what you drive.
