Paulding Light

Ok, what I've seen is the footage clip from pauldinglight.com under "Actual Footage of the Light". I did notice the car headlights do get extremely bright at times depending on what elevation the headlights are pointing and then taper off. The headlights & tail lights do not "whizz" by as it is such a far distance. Couldn't the red light changing to white be a car heading north and meeting a car heading south towards the top of the hill (the northbound dissapears and the southbound appears?) which makes the white light appear to get bigger and closer cause it is! In fact it almost happens at 1:47 mark in this clip. Yes, the lights do kinda blink and flicker thru the trees. As I asked yesterday, is that close to what everyone else has seen or is there something else? Please check it out and let me know. And if this isn't it then such a common phenomenon must be somewhere on the internet right? How often are we talking this happens? Every night, couple times a night?

We drove there one night when we were sledding in the area just to check it out, We did see it! It was spooky, but we all decided it had to be a car's break lights??? I don't know? there are no roads around? It was worth checking out though.

There are no roads around?????????? Have you even read this thread or looked at the pictures on this thread? There's the Old US Highway 45 that runs right thru this very area and the new US 45 off in the distance.

Cat Woman...Yes I have watched the clip and what I saw was kinda like that. Never saw red lights like that, I have seen red but it was just a glow it never traveled through the sky like that. But the white light is pretty close to what I saw and it does get bright like that. For it to be a car headlights on US 45 it would have to be closer than a mile to be that bright….its seems so close like maybe a block away and US 45 looking that way is not that close, the guys are saying 3.85 miles or the other “sweet spot” Johnson Lake rd is about 6 miles. We’ve been there and had someone drive down that old us45 on the other side right at us and the light was brighter than their headlights????? I am still saying it just can’t be car headlights. At least what I have seen

Thanks frnash! Love your post from page 1... hands down the best (logical and scientific) answer! Asked 24 hours ago fom a better video and nobody's replied. Hmmmm.....

I'd love to come see this experiment if I wasn't 6 hours away.

Thanks!
I didn't mention it before, but I've also flown a little aerial reconnaissance mission over the area in the mid '70s, in the daytime, (no camera, drat the luck!). Unfortunately I didn't really learn much more from that exercise that was not in my first post.

At some point car lites are directly in line of sight if only for a few secs at a time. Probably more than once with dips and turns in the road. Kinda like a flashlite. Its bright off to the side, but directed right in the eyes its BRIGHT and can create a Halo. Same with car headlites. Add in cars with brights on, then dimming for oncoming and back to brights or some combination. And it is common for lights to flicker or sometimes dissappear only to reappear over a long distances.

Mrsrunningbear - there are alot of videos on youtube of the "light" :)

I forgot to put in a couple of words in the last post......sorry the phone was ringing and i was typing to fast.

I wouldn't have spent a lot of time into this is what I meant to say. It it is freaky and I really would love to be sure about it one way or the other...I think..???? Just saying I'm a pretty sharp girl and this one has me.

seen them all...watched them several times....I'm telling ya its different when you live here and know the area real well. Heck we have been coming up to the UP since 87 and never bothered with the light.....moved up in 2005 still never bothered with it...thought hog wash...I'd seen all the stuff...bunch of BS......moved here in 07 went and saw it in 08 with a my friend dragging me all the way...and became a believer after much checking into it. At first we did think it was one of the lights at the resort. So I'm not just one of these people that falls for stuff real easy. I just can't explain it. So I think it will be real fun to look into it further than we have already :)

I give up!!!! It's obvious that not matter what the results show people are going to say that is not the lights we are talking about, it's already happening so why would I even bother to waste the time on the experiment. I still would love to hang out with the runningbars but as far as the lights, minds are already made up. I have been to the area twice and saw the lights as I was pulling up. Each time the same thing, it's not hard to see. Everybody there saw the lights and was amazed as I was in the beginning. There is not doubt in my minds we are all seeing the same light in question but as we approach busting the myth you guys are adding "different lights", "we know it's not car lights",,,, whatever,,,, I'm done.

Choosing to be believers is a decision, choosing to observe, test and interpret results are scientific. Many here have taken the scientific approach out of the equation and "believe" I am okay with that but you have to understand it no longer makes sense to offer results when they will not be received as a rational conclusion. Even if I did do the experiment, what would happen is that the "believers" would say "that is not the light we are referring to" and we would have to sit and wait and wait and wait and wait for a light that would never show up again till I wasn't there. So,,,, It was fun while it lasted. I still think a JD gathering at the runningbears should happen, lets not let this part fall apart.

X2 chords & lenny! I attached a map... not that it's going to help any. Clearly shows why it's so easy to view cars on the NEW US 45 going up and down the hill via the Old US 45/Power Line line of site. The site photo shows where you see the cars going up and down the road (area circled in red), or should I say traveling thru the sky. :)

Aw geez, don't give up on the scientific experiment!

In any event, while gathering at the runningbears', be sure to also take a trip 3 miles to the west of the highway to Sleepy Hollow (on Sleepy Hollow Road, of course) at the corner of ol' Choate Road. You might meet ol' Ichabod Crane's Headless Horseman riding by on his horse. Or perhaps some other assorted former residents of the ghost town of Choate, MI. See also Choate Post Office (historical) which was located (at the end of about 1.5 miles of 'unimproved' road) about 1.75 miles west of the intersection of Choate Road and Steusser Lake Road, near Sucker Creek, and about 6 miles south of M28.

There's just no end to the fun explorations in da Yoop! :)

Awww Lenny- did I discourage you? I'm really interested in what you can find. And if you can convince Mrs Bear- I'll take her word for it I promise. When was the new US45 built? Just curious if it's before or after this phenomenon. I'm not saying I necessarily believe in the headless train guy or whatever- but I'm not sure I believe the easy answer of oh- it's headlights. I'm just sayin', it looked nothing like headlights. I could be wrong. Don't tell my husband I said this, but is has happened just once or twice before....

Maybe we can talk Lenny back into it……..Bear and I even found a laser light to use and I'm all up for science…..ok Lenny…you can bring a gaggle of friends if you win……hmmm.....back on board yet…I’ll even cook lunch in the bush….Hmmm but visa versa…heard you cook a good lunch. What were the dates April 9 & 10 or 16 & 17 and cabins will only be 20bucks a night for any JDers that want to join the "Paulding Experiment". Thats if Lenny's back in
