Paulding Light

I have always thought it was car lights too, but think it would be fun to try the experiment and see first hand if we can prove or disprove this. When you guys doing the experiment?

Kids from Phelps High School drove out to see the Paulding light a few years ago & thought it was spooky cool. Then an Army helicopter flew over the Paulding viewing site with engines roaring & lights flashing & scared the poop out of them sent them running for cars & out of there. Laughed my butt off when I heard that! Just adds more to the myth but what was the Army doing out there? I know they fly over my house on Spectacle Lake about this time of year too low & loud.

You wouldn't believe how many people come to see the light.....we get 3 to 4 sometimes more a week asking for directions in the summer...we like to joke and tell them we'll give them 15 minutes to get there and then we'll turn the light on for them....you should see the look on their faces

Lenny, Nash and Bear go to Pauldinglight.com read some of the comments after wacthing the litttle video. Could'nt get a link to go directly there.

http://pauldinglight.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=clip
Read posts 1. A definitive test of Paulding Light and 2. Proven to be car headlights.

This might help you

OK, I've been following this thread for a few days now and I've never seen this in person so I went to Pauldinglight.com and watched the video clip. Cracks me up when they're like oohh... there's another one! If I was a bettin gal I'd put $ down that these are definately cars. The red tail lights are always going up the hill and the white headlights are always coming down the hill and the red light always passes to the right of the white light, just like cars on a road! The flickering is from the lights coming thru the trees. Just my two cents on this particular video. If there's another video out there on the web to make me think otherwise let me know where to find it. But hey, if it helps out the local tourism business then long live the mysterious "Paulding Light". :)

Okay Lenny, since I know were you live. I feel I've known you my whole life. (LOL) How about us going out there and figuring this Brakemans issue out so he will go over to the "Other side". My wife watches "Ghost Whisperer" and she could be of big help if I brought her along. Besides we can "shack up" with mrsrunningbear for a few days and drive her "nuts".

for sure, we could have a blast doing so, how soon can you get here?

I kinda wanna do it sooner than later. Polaris, what is you cannot make it and we never get it done. I think it's best to get at it soon before it goes to long.

Bears, do you guys have some technical terrain I can ride my sled on over there next season, that's kinda what I like. I won't require it but if we can that would be great. You got cabins open this weekend? How much? I can bring the cooler and ATV if need be. Should I brings the family, my kids would love this. Actually they are very well behaved. Mr Freeze said he is not interested. he says it's car lights and not worth a second of his time. I would just love to hang out with the bears and have fun out side

We could just plan an outing for like 3 weeks from now and see if we can get a bunch of JD'ers over there. Maybe the man himself will come out. I'll email him to see if he is interested.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I just emailed John!!!!!

If we are gonna wait we need commitments soon or it will never get done. Any other ideas?

We say sooner than later also…..yup we got cabins this weekend and for sure bring the family, the cooler and ATV - no charge for the cabin.…..hangin out is something we’d like too.

We also really like the idea of a couple weeks if we can get a group of JDers together for this “experiment”…we’d do something real cheep for cabins …like 20 bucks a night to cover heat and everyone pitch in for cookout dinner we’d coordinate. We're thinking 1st, 2nd or 3rd week in April. So I agree we would need commitments soon

As for riding....;) I’m sure Greenland is where we're gonna end up…..BUT…we have technical terrain I’m sure you’d like down here in the paulding area :).

How about we plan for either the 9th or the 16th. If others here are interested they can chime in for the best date. I think Fri or sat night would be best. I would prefer Fri night (pre experiment and hang out session), hang out all day sat planning the bust, bust the myth sat night and go home (with the cash, oh yea no cash, a voucher for riding.) I could do sat but I lead worship music at church on sun and probably not the best excuse to leave them high and dry.

Alright people, who's in? ,,,,,,,and when?

Make a point of seeing it in person. All the videos on the internet are not that good, much better in person.

lets go back to the "light" its self.......

1. is it the white and red ones that people see in the distance

2. or the one light that looks like a train headlight that comes so close you think its going to run you over

Both are seen......which one is it...and which one are we looking for

I say #2 is the light

I KNEW IT, THE DISCLAIMER IS HERE, "THE LIGHTS ARE CONFUSING, WHICH ONES ARE WE RERERING TO, THE HEAD LIGHTS AND TAIL LIGHT OR THE ACTUAL Phenomenon"

I'll be riding in Paulding, never done it before, can I bring a gaggle of friends or was the bet just for myself :D

Ok if they are car lights your telling me a car or truck drives down that road every few minutes everyday? I don't think that is a major highway?

Yes, it is a major highway....US-45.

You'll be in the parking lot where the light is seen....you'll see the white light, and 5-10 minutes later a new vehicle pulls in. Then someone will leave, and 5-10 minutes later, you get to see the red light.

Here's a MDOT map from 2008. Don't know if you guys can make it out or not. But it shows the annual average 24 hour traffic volumes for US 45 for the area between Watersmeet and Bruce Crossing to have around 1,300 vehicles per day - THATS ALMOST A CAR EVERY MINUTE! Not to mention the traffic count is 3,100 just north of Watersmeet. Definitely a well traveled road to say the least :)

I don't know what the videos on the internet look like- but I can tell you this, I'm a pretty intelligent gal- so much so that I'm pretty sure I can tell when headlights from cars are approaching me. I have been driving for quite some time- I know what headlights and tail lights look like- even in the distance. This looks NOTHING like that. As I said before- I saw: a red blinking light. Not like tailights whizzing by- it also moved up and down a bit. The same light- not a bunch of lights off in the distance. It then changed to white- changed... from red to white and then approached us. When I say white light, I mean white. Not like your average flashlight, headlight, train light, etc. A white glow almost. It then approached (similar to what you would expect if a train was coming at you) and got HUGE. It seemed like it was just over the lip of the hill/guardrail there- lighting up the valley. But there was nothing there. And there was no sound. I'm not crazy. I don't know what I saw. But it was NOT a car.
Can you maybe see car lights in the distance from there? Don't know. But what I saw was not cars driving by on a highway 10 miles or whatever in the distance.
Anyway- wish I lived closer to join Lenny & the Bears on their experiment weekend. I only saw it once and would love to do it again (why we didn't go when I was just a guest at the Bear Resort a month ago, not sure). Have fun on your experiment! Can't wait to hear your findings.

definitely a well traveled road US 45 durning the day.....but come night time we can sit outside and maybe a car an hour and after midnight.....sometimes nothing for hours. The light is seen on old 45 and if you drive the other side (in the picture) of old 45 north it really curves to the west making the space in between old 45 and US45 a 1/4 mile or more...I'm not good with distances...but we hunt in that area in between. I should get some of the stories out of the guest books.....lots of believers :)....alright Lenny non believers too....great stories. Should have seen the 3 ladies (up for ladies weekend) and the 5 bear hunters pile in a pick up front and back (was a sight to see) around 2am to go see the light...now they had some stories...lol...but they are all believers now

We drove there one night when we were sledding in the area just to check it out, We did see it! It was spooky, but we all decided it had to be a car's break lights??? I don't know? there are no roads around? It was worth checking out though.
