SOOO stoked you guys are going to do the experiment! Can't wait to hear what your findings are even though yes, I think no matter what the outcome there will always be people who don't believe it. What was the final decision for a date 9/10 or 16/17?

My wife reminded me that we need to be in Mass City on the 17th at noon for a benefit for Rachel Brown. This 13 yr old girl is fighting for her life against cancer, for the second time. Please pray for here, my daughter and her are good friends this stuff is scary. pray for the entire family as they are all down in Texas now awaiting a surgery.

How about the 9th or 30th of April, my daughters birth day is the 23rd so that wont work for me. Cat women, you thinking about coming?

next you can see the sign for the resort. Then I was standing in the yard by the power lines and looked north and then south down old 45...just thought we should look at how the road runs and the power lines from this side

No he's not! He's a "mathemagician" (BS Mathematics, MTU, 1962). Also amateur linguist, philologist and geographer.

Incidentally, if you draw a straight line on a topographic map, initially along the road (Old US45) from the Paulding light viewpoint due north, and study the line of sight and land profile along that line, you will observe that the terrain drops quite abruptly from around 1500' at the viewpoint down to about 1420 ' at Bluff Creek, then rises to about 1494' at a small hill about 1100' south of Mateson Creek (Old US45 veers to the west around that hill), then abruptly drops to 1370'.

The line of sight due north from the viewpoint comes precisely into alignment with a segment of the present US45 from a point 1220' south of Bond Falls road, past Paulding, to a point 564' north of Bond Falls road (a total distance of 1784' — approximately 1/3 of a mile). This segment of the present US45 is at an elevation of 1338' - 1368'.

Continuing north along the present US45, the road deviates a short distance (about 360') to the east before drifting back to the west into precise alignment with the line of sight again about 1¼ miles further north (where the elevation rises to approximately 1420') and remains in alignment to well beyond Bruce Crossing.

This configuration is perfectly suited to cause lights on vehicles traveling along that unique 1/3 mile segment of the present US45 past Paulding to be visible, flickering through the trees, from the Paulding Light viewpoint.

Puzzle solved. :D

Well right after photo 2 of your first post, pretty much where the gold car is in front of you is where the new US45 comes into alignment with old US45. Don't believe me? Go on Google maps and drag the little yellow man to street view on US45 right in front of the house w/the solid white fence (again, North of town). Make sure your facing south and make your way down new US45. Alignment with the old US45 then continues all the way to the south edge of town. You can see the power poles heading south this whole stretch. Photo 3 shows that well. US45 in front of your resort is too far south for alignment as shown on my map (the blue line is Old US45 & the power lines). You can even see the callout text for your resort south of the red box, north of the "RT45" note and under the blue line (Congrats you made the map!! :) ). Considering this is right down town and cars are traveling at a low rate of speed I think this makes a good argument.

JUST LIKE FRNASH SAID WAY BACK ON POST #8!!!!

But hey, like I said - Long live the Mysterious Paulding Light (I guess)

I was also thinking they were a tad bit to far south as you can see the elevation change from that location with no problem, it's not a ot but noticeable

They who me

ya dar.

were heading down there now to check it out, not any experimentation, were all bored and though it would be something to do. If you hear the door knock it just may be the ghost of Tyrid Manti, a 1866 unexplained fatality in that low lying area at the bottom, were at least an hr away

okay people, this just in, special bulletin. Myth is busted,,, again,,,myth is busted!!!!!. I went to the site before dark and looked through the bi-nocs, You can see the highway clearly. I pulled up there at about 7:40 which is about 30 mins before sunset. I could see the headlight and the cars driving on the highway . I could clearly see. As it got dark things appeared different because of the dark, just as the appeared the last time I was there (dark). Everybody had a sense of spookiness to the light.

I did see many different contrasting lights. The best one was a very bright orangish-white, stayed bright from the beginning I saw it. Many stayed somewhat dim. Some were blueish-white. I timed the duration of each viewing. They varied from 1 min and 19sec to 1 min and 28 sec than they vered to the right and disappeared, Same with the taillights. We stayed there till 9:15 and saw no other lights. Seeing that I viewed the lights for 1 and a 3rd mins and observed the up and down movement of the lights I was able to make an educated guess as to where the sweet spot is located. My guess is the beginning of the viewing is 6.8 miles south of 28 (south of Bruce Crossing). When I do go back I'll be able to test my theory with lights and other people.

From way out in da desert, that looks like about 1/3 mile south of Tanlund Lake Rd/Johnson Lake Rd. Interesting, sounds familiar, too!

I have the crappy little bi-nocs. With good ones you probably could tell what kind of vehicle was on the road. I do feel kinda bad to be the messenger here folks but it really is done. I mean I'll continue to work on it and meet up with folks and have a nice time but as far as the source of light, TRAFFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

I did pull into your lot and try to get a satellite link with my GPS but heavy cloud cover and tree cover does hamper up-links. Honestly, go up there tomorrow evening about 7:45 and you'll see what I mean,it is so obvious. I know it's fun and all but observations have conclusions, the more obvious the more accurate. I believe the lights are seen about 1.5-2 miles north of you. How did the dinner go? What did you guys have?

Asa far as the elevation changes, they only shorten the distance and help the viewer

So Lenny do you think the whole viewing is north of Paulding and does not include Paulding itself? I would not be completely suprised... I just wanted to make the fact earlier that US45 DOES come into alignment with the old US45 in Paulding. And as you stated it's also in alignment north of the curve north of Sleepy Hollow Road (and past Bruce Crossings for about 6 miles for that matter). Like someone stated earlier with the different headlights nowadays it's not suprising to just see white but white'ish colors also. Thanks for the update! :)

we had a great dinner...sorry we missed you guys.....well someday we'll meet...cause now that you have solved this...no one will come :( guess your gonna be riding in paulding  .......just have one question...how can you explain the car that came down old 45 going south it drove right at us when we were at the guard rail...we knew this was a car it was less than a 1/4 mile away coming down the gravel road in the pictures and the paulding light was brighter and bigger than that cars headlights. I think this is the hardest one for me to understand with it being over 8 miles away where you say the car headlights are coming from...please explain your thought to me if you can
