Ford is a major contributor to the Sierra Club. I hope you all know what that means.

I'm sure they are all required to contribute their penances to appease the greenies, whether it's the Sierra Club or another. Hard to get away from it in the public company world. I know Bill Ford is a crazy environ-nazi, so maybe they are worse.

I think from 95 to 03 u are safe those are mostly great trucks and late build 04 and up alloy block run away GM spec is like 2 qt per 3k mi of oil as acceptable on trucks with like 49k on them .
fr end issues on most think they got better after like 09
My 5.3 HO ALUM block used 0 oil. The oil pan did leak but all the bolts were rather loose. I pulled the front axle and replaced the gasket anyways.

my 05 2500 duramax left my family stranded last week at the campground when the injectors had issues again, last time it was at deer camp but i like getting stranded there! .... my 01 cummins never stranded me and never lost a tranny and the f350 ford i had before that was nothing but a work horse that never stopped, go figure
i'll never buy a chevy again either

I can assure you that there were no really bad years, but it really comes down to personal opinion which is the biggest issue with this topic. 88-95 had a 350 TBI and were VERY VERY slow and useless but very very reliable. I still could never own one because they really are that slow. 96 came the 350 vortec night and day difference, intake gaskets in the vortecs were a slight issue but not too big of a deal. They have so much low end torque it's not even funny. I bought another one just because of it, they could out-tow any brand in their time. 99 came the new body and 5.3 that body stayed mostly the same thru 06 and 07 classic trucks, 03 got an updated grille and interior and slight exterior changes otherwise very similar truck. The 5.3 gained power in 2000, 2004, and in 05 the HO aluminum block came out only in ext cab Z71 trucks and then spread across the lineup fairly well in 06. The early 5.3's had minor head gasket issues and lifter issues but is a very solid motor just like every LS motor GM has. 07 was the new body with same motor pretty much. In 09 came the 6 speed trans but not many had them until 2010. Haven't heard of any issues with the trans whatsoever. The gear ratio of each trans gear is insane compared to a 4 speed. Not many issues with those trucks either and again new body in 2014 with a direct injected 5.3 and a big power increase. It's funny momoney2123 brings it up about GM motors as I don't know how to word my thoughts on this. You don't see people dropping Ford or Dodge motors into project cars. Each and every last one of them is an LS based GM motor. GM probably also had THE best transmission in half ton trucks for the past 2/3 decades with the 700r4/4l60e.
My Mom bought a 96 when they first came out:) I was 16 years old:rolleyes:tires were shot by 10k! somthing about the 96's she had a 98 that didn't have near the power. I remember going down the hwy at 60 in the rain and you could get the tires to break loose. Gm was ahead in the late 90's and early 2k now they are behind IMO

Woodtic, you're a piece of work:)!! I Propose Indy and myself have a pull off for charity:) The loser makes a donation to a charity of the winner's choice!! It will be good fun and a great cause. What do you say Indy? Lets both put our words to work. Your stock half ton versus my stock half ton right up here in God's Country, ( Da U.P. ey)

I have a 2007 F150 lariat Super Crew (or whatever they call the 4 door). It has 165K on it now. It has had the IWE (lockers) on the front axle replaced, and I changed the spark plugs on it at 115K. I only broke two of them off during the removal process. The engine uses minimal oil during a 4K oil change cycle, Less than 1/2 qt. It has had regular annual lube changes in the driveline and trans flushes. Even pulled the trans pan and replaced the filter at 100K. But for the last few months the rear end is starting to make howl. Likely the Pinion Bearing is starting to fail, and I have even noticed that under load pulling the boat and making a turn there is more noise than just the pinion. So it is time for a service and perhaps bearing kit in the rear axel. All and all it has been a very good truck. It is not a power house by any means, but it suits my needs, and in the winter pulling the 4 place inline sled trailer it gets better MPG's than my friends 04 Chev 2500 with the 6.0 gas by a wide margin. he gets 8 and my little 5.4 gets 12.

Only if I get to add sand or salt bags to get equal weight for equal traction! :) Anybody know where I can get 1000 lbs of salt or sand?

Indy but you're faster which means more power doesn't it? Why are you looking for weight? Your power should offset any weight advantage of the lowly and undependable F-150:) Your 1500 rock solid Chevy against this slower heavier F-150. Hey, I'm the underdog here:) By the sounds of it I'll need my backup cam to be working very well as I'll be getting pulled backwards faster than I can go forward:)!!!! This is a straight up pull, no handicaps here. Ford vs. Chevy and the charity wins!! You're very confident in Chevy and I respect that, so that being said you should not need any handicaps as the Ford already has plenty of faults, especially power:)

now we're talking. Willey, I'll help you supply all the hotdogs and hamburgers. Maybe we can have the pull off in your parking lot kip,,,,,,, but we better be careful cause when the chevy starts blowing out iron parts all over the lot it could damage my future 6 seater Viking.

I think it's a good match up,,,, all kidding aside and Indy ought to take you up on it, what do you say Indy?
