Just a quick report here basically the same that I sent in this morning for the Facebook page of Walworth county. You can see some of my pictures of the trail there. Here is the link:https://www.facebook.com/pages/Walworth-County-Snowmobile-Alliance/127455090695002

As of right now trails in Walworth county will remain closed. We probably picked up 3-4" last night was really hard to tell with all the blowing and drifting going on. From what I saw this morning most of the trails looked good but there were a few of the fields that were blown really bad to the point that they would be pretty rough. Not sure if they will decide to open them for the weekend or not but as of right now they are closed. Sorry I don't have a better report. All I can say is check the Facebook page or call the hotline that 122 posted above.

SledLT, I did get the shanty out on Beulah last night. We had about 7-10" of ice on the lake. Where the shanty is sitting we have about 8" of ice. There is some snow on the lakes some are really big drifts and then also some bare ice spots. So you probably could run the lakes without a problem. I haven't heard of anyone running the rivers yet. I would imagine they are getting pretty close to running the rivers around here pretty soon.

Will report back if there is something to report. Stay off trails please until declared open.

i saw the groomer out in kenosha and got all excited!!! its bare in spots but what do you expect in SE wisconsin.

Unfortunately I did not make it out last night but I did call the Dover Inn near Union Grove and they said riders are saying conditions were good. Basically the Union Grove are and Kenosha are open. I think the trick to riding in Kenosha is to stay on the corridors - those are state funded and groomed.

Yea, almost everything we rode west of 94 was groomed last night. It was actually pretty nice. East of 94 was hit or miss.

Chop, where did you start from? Is it feasible to ride from Northwoods rd and Wadsworth road to trails?

I rode from home yesterday. Im off of Delany, south of 21st st. I just took 21st to the tracks and ran the tracks north to the state line. Its pretty thin though. I wouldnt do it again until theres more snow.

You could ride the ditch on Kilbourne to the stateline. I took Kilbourne south to get home last night. There was already a trail in the ditch to follow. Otherwise it would probably be easier and less wear on the sled to start from R&R Crossing on the stateline. The trail runs right out of the back of the parking lot and up to the Kenosha system. Or start from the Brat Stop, thats pretty close to where they started grooming. All depends on where you want to end up and how far you want to ride. I think I ended up with 100 miles last night and I never went west of hwy45 or north of KR.

If you are starting east of 94 remember that you either follow the trail west by 165 or you have to run hwy50 from H all the way out to 94 past all the shopping centers and the hospital. Its not bad later at night but during the day theres a ton of traffic along there. Not really what I would call a fun ride during the day. But it wasnt bad once the stores were closed.

If anyone is looking for someone to ride with this weekend by Racine/ Kenosha county let me know. I just moved to Milwaukee area and all my riding buddies live up north so Ive never road down here. Just trying to get a few miles on before I head up north next weekend.

Thanks! Is there a marked trail on 165 or do you just ride the ditch until you pick it up west of 94?

Well I did end up getting to go out an ride today, but I don't have nearly the same news as others. Maybe it is different as you get more east, but in twin lakes which is practically in Walworth, the fields were blown down and where people had ridden it was exposing rows of tilled dirt. I road off the lake, down the street and turned around at the first field. If I wasn't leaving on a trip this upcoming week and didn't have a friend on the back of my sled, I probably could've ridden through a few bad spots. I counted probably close to 20 sleds out buzzing on the lake and a few at the bars so obviously people had to be riding the trails. FYI I was on club trails not county corridors so maybe that is why they weren't so hot.

yesterday I drove through the side roads in Union Grove in Racine County and through Kenosha County. The trails were fairly thin but they didn't look too bad. There was some grooming but there also was grass and dirt sticking up through the trails.I guess I will write them fair to poor. I am sure they're just getting worse.the chain is pretty good all the way up to route 50. There are some open holes but if you follow the tracks you'll be fine. I did not yet headed down to Fox Lake and pistakee Lake but I'm sure they are fine. I'll have to find out about the Grass Lake bridge and the route 12 bridge.when talk to some girls that actually rode all the way fromthe broken or through Johnsburg. They would not do that again! It was pretty hairy I guess.

I did a little riding in Kenosha county today. I didn't spend too much time on the trails as they weren't in good shape. For the most part I would have been better off on the dirt bike. I rode a bit north and a bit south of 142. I'm surprised the trails are still open.

Didn't bother getting out this weekend. I was going to ride the trails in Waukesha Eagle and Mukwonago but from what I could tell they looked pretty beat up already on Sunday. I did talk to a few guys at Knuckleheads on Saturday night that said the Kettle Moraine trails were at least decent enough to ride and have some fun. But once you get outside of the Kettle then the fields were brutal in spots. I would imagine this slight warm up coming this weekend will close all the trails again. Hopefully John's forecast for Jan 19-21st pans out for us. Would sure be nice to get trails open in decent condition for a extended period of time. Doesn't look like there will be anything to report on until early next week if we get some snow. Will post back later if something to post on.

Picked up a dusting of white fluffy lake effect over night. I think there was a little more picked up in Racine and Kenosha counties. Not sure how much though. Still coming down very light flurries. I am hoping that the slight warm up this weekend doesn't get too out of hand. Let's hope the moderate snow that John is predicting for next week plays out. This could really get us going down here.

If you have a 15-20 year old sled that you don't care about, or an ATV, then ride the trails around Racine County.
I see the trails that run along HWY 20, and close to Dover Inn. From what I can see, I wouldn't put my sled on any of those trails.
But then again, that's why I have a place up north, so I don't have to subject my equipment to that punishment.
It's dirt/snirt and waaaaay too thin coming across most open fields. We've had a lot of wind, so open fields are blown clear.
I haven't seen one sled on any trail to, and from work, like I did last year.
The good news is, you will have the trails all to yourself.

Part of the coolness of Southern Wisconsin riding is seeing us middle income people with sleds get some of that old metal out of the garage and take it for a spin. I wouldn't ride my sled on those trails right now, but I also wouldn't hesitate if there was a little more snow.

Well it doesn't matter now all the surrounding counties Walworth, Racine, Kenosha, and Waukesha are all closed again. Probably should be unless like Bob said take some of the old iron out! At times I wish I had a old sled I could just punish. But at the same time then I would be punishing my body! EEEK A few of my buddies have old skeeters. It sure is fun watching them ride those things. Maybe someday I will pull the trigger on one!

Anyways sounds like Saturday will be the day to keep an eye on. I am going to hit the lake with the sled this Saturday should be enough snow out there yet to have a little fun. But I hope it doesn't get much warmer than the 37 that is forecasted. We will have to see.

i was surprised they even opened these trails for 2 days. driving by the fields all I saw was chiseled dirt and blown clear fields. old iron or new iron my body won't handle that anymore plus how fun is it really riding on dirt.

need to get thru the Friday, Saturday, sunday and see where we stand. gonna be close to 40 this weekend. might be starting from scratch.
