Poos Problems

Let's face it everybody! All things mechanical can break! As stated hear Polaris has had a few know problems with the 800! End of Story! How about a Doo's Problems or a Cat's Crap post? Why 28 pages of the same people beating on the same drum? A great informative post got way blown out of proportion on this.

Come on Indy, what ya gettin' next??? Do Tell...

Because know one has started a thread asking those questions about Doo or Cat! LOL.

2 sets of pistons/rings in my 05 Renegade 600 HOSDI in 6500 miles, one set of pistons rings in my brothers 04 600 ho SDI in 4200 miles. Why? because they were junk, no matter what ski-doo said at the time. My brother and I both bought these sleds KNOWING we might have a problem with lost compression, rings flaking etc etc. BUT, at the time, it was the best chassis out there, for how we were riding, so we took the chance.

My brothers 08 M8, 4500 miles, no engine problems, same plugs that were in it when he bought it, no diamond drive problems, no powervalve cable issues. One cracked bulkhead, which is now fixed, and a couple of bent a-arms because he can't avoid a few trees now and then. Gas and go, BULLETPROOF! :)

Well ya! He read this thread and said to himself "Self, we need a new boonydocking sled, and the 800 is not the way to go."

LOL well, besides the fact i'm not a fan of the 8 hundos, i don't see myself in need of one anyways. I can find 155 pros cheaper than most of these 144s. Maybe its telling me something???

You going to trail ride with that? Not bashing, just curious cause I thought you like to pile on the miles. Maybe you got sick of buying gas

Greg, You make a good point but to say "a few known problems" is an understatement. The 800 has been a disaster and from new info it appears there has been some serious improvements. I just don't understand why some (not you) have a hard time accepting the fact. I have a suspicion and again, it's brand loyalty.

I gave lots of credit to PR1 for at least admitting he is a loyalists. He even explained why but Mspease posts on this thread has been only crying wolf. Claiming we are all bashing poo and than after someone he will acknowledge knows his stuff, does he come out and make mention of a known problem. This thread has been very informative, fun, and just good old banter, that's what messages boards do. I simply have little patients for people who deny facts and jump on the wagon and claim "bashing",,,,they also deserve to take some slack when they dump on those who are trying to offer real info.

I am not dumping on Carter in any way. I just stated that because he didn't have much problem with newer 800 does not mean others didn't. I believe the thread starter "Pwolfy" had a newer 800 and it took a dump. Kip McIntyre had a 2012 pro RMK he got on trade that was blown up. Right here is 2, if I am correct, 2012 or newer that blew. No doubt improvements have been made, lets hope it goes away to where we don't have to talk about this any more but till than, it's an open discussion.

That 700 was no Gem! Lots of motors going down and no real fix offered!!!

Just chatting with you on this one Lenny - I am no loyalist. I personally feel that brand loyalty is ignorance in the person that wants the best! At some point each manufacture will make a sled that industry wide works for each rider better than any other! I personally don't understand Whitedust's love for his Attack! Very nice sled for banging the Yooper trails but falls short of many others in terms of trail handling, ride quality and powder prowess! However for Pete it works! He knows what makes it tick and has the utmost confidence in his sled! For me I feel the Pro RMK has the best ergo's and handles steep terrain better than any other when on edge (for me). I understand that some have had engine issues! I also understand that not all have experienced this!!! It is however a chance I am ready to take to have a sled that allows me to ride terrain that I may not feel comfortable to do on others (this chassis works for me). I also feel that I will either be on a new sled after my warranty ends or I will do an Indy Dan Long Rod kit to take care of known issues and also regain a 3 year engine warranty! That makes me more comfortable that hoping an 800 E-Tec will go 6,000 trouble free miles!!!

I think that this post has gone beyond discussing just an engine issue! No longer is tech information on this engine the primary topic!

I agree Greg, I was not implying you were a loyalists. I also agree the pro rmk kicks major butt. I have ridden 2 last season and do like them a lot.

I was making reference in my last post about why we beat the same drum, it seems worth it, lots to sort through and lots to reject, brand loyalty offers little to nothing for insight. Actually brand loyalty clouds the issues and keeps the drum beating even longer,,,,lol

I agree on the clouds! My thought is that we have different words on the same argument for 28 pages! Well heck I guess when everyone is bored, cant ride and want winter to start up where it left off we all can get a bit testy!

you are hooked bud! Welcome to the dark side, the side where A-arms go crunch, the side where windshields go splat,,,you have arrived,,,we have been waiting!
Windshield? is that that clear thing that busts off the first time u roll the sled over never to be seen again?
always know a guy who is new to the deep buy looking at his state sticker placement

In MI it would be the placement of the trail permit on the windshield and to really answer your question the mirror bases without the mirrors

I agree with you Lenny but difficult for Greg to take a position so strong on the Poo 800 RMK when he sells Yam,Doo & Poo. In some ways his opinion could hurt him but we all have our favs for many reasons. In my case for my Attak getting me home from trails is most important & powder least important. My Attak can handle 1 foot of freshy as long as I have some hardpack to grind on but would be a sinking ship in 2 feet of powder but then again not my thing. I do agree we need to hear it all the good, bad & the ugly to be informed & this website is well balanced for the most part. Yep the loyalists do try to cloud issues & posters feel more motivated to take them on when they just had or know someone that just blew a Poo 800. I had simular issues with Doo 800 but did not belive it until it happend to me so now I listen & where there is smoke there is fire & the power of the internet is very helpful.

This is what is cool about the whole thread. People who may have not known ANYTHING, now know SOMETHING. Just think of the all the people who may be looking to upgrade from there current sled, say a 2000-2005, and are looking at an 09 800 dragon. Well, now they can read that there were some issues, and to be aware of that before spending the money. Before the internet, we hardly ever knew about issues, unless you owned one.

Take my example earlier of my Renegade, I had read countless posts about guys going through pistons/rings on the Doo 600 HO. Ski-Doo said, there is no problem. LOL. Riiiight. I watched my compression drop throughout the year, as did my brother. Without the net, I would have not known there was a problem, you know the dealer was not going to say "by the way, you will probably have to put new pistons/rings in after this year".

I really never understood the brand loyalty to the point of not keeping an open mind.

Agree 100%. My Fusion 600 locked up when a carb boot failed soon after I bought it (out of warranty but with 200 miles on it). Had I known where to research on the internet then, I would have known to replace it or keep my eye on it. Heck, I'd probably be a Poo cheerleader also. Just kidding.
